Lexus of Auckland City Hosts the Melbourne Cup

It was a white glove affair as the Lexus Melbourne Cup was put on display for customers at Lexus of Auckland City.
That isn’t just a turn of phrase, customers had the opportunity to quite literally don the white glove and hold the 18-carat gold trophy, something normally reserved for the riders and owners of the winning horses at the iconic event.
McGrath, who might be in the running for coolest job title, is responsible for the Melbourne Cup’s annual tour, a chance for the Victoria Racing Club to connect with fans of the event all over Australia, and now New Zealand.
“Two of the top three [horses] have come from New Zealand, so there’s a significant connection to this race in this country.”
Lexus is a proud sponsor of the Melbourne Cup, so it was fitting for New Zealand’s largest Lexus dealership to be nominated as its Auckland stop.
“It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be in the same room as the Lexus Melbourne Cup. Many people are not fortunate enough to travel to the event, so we thought it would be fantastic to bring the Cup to our customers at Lexus of Auckland City.” said Sharlene Van Dijk, CEO of Lexus of Auckland City.
The cup itself contains over 1.8kg of 18 carat gold and is valued in excess of $800,000NZD. Given to the owner of the winning horse, a new cup is made each year for the event.
