McLaren Auckland’s tribute to Ayrton Senna

Sep 12, 2024

On the 1st of May 1994, the world lost one of its greatest Formula 1 drivers, Ayrton Senna.

Thirty years after that tragic day at the San Marino Grand Prix, the Brazilian icon remains a huge figure in motorsport, inspiring generations of drivers and fans.

Senna’s career in the top echelon of motorsport was marked by near-superhuman speed, precision, and determination. This led to the Brazilian icon winning three Formula 1 World Championships, all with McLaren.

Senna was dominant with McLaren, winning 35 races for the Woking-based outfit and securing 46 pole positions.

His ability to extract every ounce of performance from the car, particularly in difficult conditions, became his trademark. One of his most famous performances came driving the McLaren MP4/8 during the 1993 European Grand Prix at Donington Park, where he overtook four cars on the opening lap in wet conditions to win the race, leading to his reputation as a master in the rain.

His partnership with McLaren produced some of the greatest moments in Formula 1 history, and it’s with this in mind that McLaren Auckland have created their own tribute to Senna: a special Artura sporting a bespoke livery.
